Overall Reflection-
My adaptation, “The Unfamiliar: Curious Minds”, is a short story that takes the original theme of the hit TV show “Stranger Things”, excepts it focuses on a more contemporary, real life problem. The purpose of my project is the shine attention on the very real contemporary, cultural problem of a potential corrupt government and people with high power. My adaptation fits into the course focus because of how I put together a short, exciting story that shows contrast between the real monsters and misfits of the world. I also tied in an important topic and used my story as a way to point out the topic’s relevance.
When I received the criteria and expectations for this project I knew it would take a lot of time and effort, so I wasn’t very excited. However, once I got started I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed working on my adaptation and creating my own version of my favorite TV show. I learned so much during the progression of this project, like how to use a website, and how to create the feeling of fear in my writing. The experience of creating this type of final instead of a tradition essay or test is so much more involving and interesting, and it makes is easier to learn.
The strongest part of my adaptation, I think, would be the way I made a modern type monster out of the government and focusing on a society obstacle that we face today. My adaptation ends on a positive cliff hanger, like it’s the end of an episode, and I think it’s another one of the stronger parts of the whole story. Personally, I think the weaker part of my project would be the way I introduced the individual characters and my overall writing style; I wish to improve it as I grow as a writer. However, with this particular project I’m very proud of the work I did and feel it’s some of the best work I’ve done. With that being said, I do feel as that I deserve a high grade of an A on this project because of all the work and time I put into perfecting it the best I could.
Overall, I had a lot of fun spending my time working on this project and learning things along the way. Especially because I was able to base my work off of “Stranger Things”, which is one of my favorite shows to binge watch. This was by far one of my favorite finals given to me and I enjoyed it so much more than the traditional finals that my other classes assign.
